About the Matua Pinot Gris Gisborne 750ml
Critic tasting note (2021 vintage):
"Founded in 1974, Matua has continually surprised and innovated in a country still young on the wine scene. Their 'Matua, Pinot Grigio 2021' stands out as a crisp and refreshing white, yet not without character. From the first pour, the bouquet reveals itself with surprising intensity: vibrant aromas of juicy pear, crisp green apple, and a subtle hint of lemon zest, all highlighted by a delicate, almost saline minerality. On the palate, the attack is lively, marked by well-balanced acidity that brings immediate freshness. Flavors of white-fleshed fruit blossom, supported by light floral notes. However, despite this engaging first impression, the wine also shows its limits: a somewhat timid finish and a complexity that struggles to fully develop over the course of the tasting. Serve at 12°C. Delicious with Thai basil shrimp, teriyaki salmon fillet, pork dumplings, shrimp pad thai, General Tso's chicken, Asian salad, or seared scallop bites."
