The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a seminal Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that pioneered the now-ubiquitous technique of wood finishing. Created by legendary Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE in 1993, this exceptional whisky spends at least twelve years maturing in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads to soften and build its foundational character. It is then transferred to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional nine months to impart rich, sweet fruit and warm spice layers. Finally, the whisky is married in large oak tuns for three to four months, allowing the diverse wood influences to beautifully integrate. The result is a highly harmonious, approachable, and classic dram that remains a global benchmark for the double-cask maturation style.

Food Pairing: Pairs exquisitely with dark chocolate ginger biscuits, slow-roasted glazed pork belly, rich blue cheeses like Stilton, or a warm slice of traditional fruit cake.

TASTING NOTES - A brilliant, warm amber-gold color with a smooth, velvety, and beautifully rounded medium-bodied mouthfeel.

NOSE - Sweet and inviting with rich aromas of honey, vanilla, and sweet orchard fruits, layered with Oloroso sherry notes, subtle nuttiness, and a hint of orange peel.

PALATE - Remarkably smooth and mellow on the tongue, showing a delightful balance of sweet dried fruits, toasted nuts, heather honey, and rich cinnamon-ginger spice.

FINISH - Long, warm, and highly elegant, resolving with a lingering sweetness, gentle oak tannins, and a soft spice glow.
