Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 2006 750ml

Vintage number 71 opens with notes of sea shell, white peach and light biscuit. This highly finessed 2006 vintage mixes 42/39/19 chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot meunier, with a great depth of pithy lemon and chalky minerality. A dense green apple core is brightened and styled with chalk dust and lemon vibrancy. A fine rift of spices on the finish, and a low (5 g/l) dosage keep chardonnay's pristine fruit at the fore. A quirky year, the 2006 vintage followed a cold winter, frost in the spring, and a summer that featured hail, a heat wave and then a cool, rainy August. It was all saved by a September that featured three weeks of superb weather to brought the crop home. It’s what makes a vintage bubble so unique.

This offers great balance between the freshest fruit and toasty maturity. That poise gives this impressive Champagne a tension, a high wire act that works superbly. It is rich, full of fruit but also with great depth. It will certainly age, so drink now or hold through 2019.
