Serego Alighieri Vaio Armaron Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2016/2017

Deep ruby red, almost impenetrable. Elegant intensity of aromas: berry fruit preserved in spirit, dried plums and cocoa. Intense and well balanced on the palate: full bodied with silky tannins and a firm structure. Long finish of ripe cherries and sweet spices.

Ideal with red meats, game, quail, roasts, and other richly-flavored dishes. Excellent paired with strong cheeses (like parmesan, pecorino etc.). A noble after-dinner wine.

94 Points - Wine Spectator

Elegant and finely meshed, with deft and pleasing interplay between traditional Amarone style and a more modern approach. There's a sanguine edge to this version, along with savory notes of smoke and black tea leaf, but also a core of dark, juicy black cherry and plum sauce flavors accented by vanilla and baking spices. The rich, expressive flavor profile is seamlessly knit with the dense, fine-grained tannins.

93 Points - James Suckling

While this is a far reach from the redder fruited, crunchier and pixelated expressions of Classico that increasingly define an exciting region, there is little debate as to the style sought at this address and the fine quality on offer. Cherry wood oak, unique and intriguing, makes its presence felt across a swathe of burly, dusty tannins. The nose, macerated boozy cherries, alpine pine, balsamic and freshly polished stairwell. The finish, strident and long-limbed.
