Domaine Francois Mikulski Bourgogne Cote d’Or Pinot Noir 2022 750ml

Robe of a light garnet. Soft and harmonious nose – sour cherries and plums; black fruit jelly with a mix of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry; sweet spices with touches of cinnamon, brown sugar and curcuma; sweetness and poetry; a dwindling note of peony, tulip stem and geranium shoots; a hint of soot from the hearth; steamed pink-brown button mushrooms; a touch of violet – a lot of charm.

Full-bodied on the palate – easy to drink, tender and silky mouthfeel; tannins so ripe that their presence is hardly felt; the gradual increase of peppers – white pepper at first; a hint of root ginger and black radish; coriander seeds; cooked peppery verbena; Coeur de Boeuf tomato jam.

Energetic finish; spicy, sharper and with more tension than might be expected; wonderful length marked by spices and marinated herbs, mint, peppery verbena and coriander.

Farmer’s pâté, parsleyed ham, assortment of cold meats, thrush terrine with juniper; and, because of the soft tannins, you could venture – without even laying this wine down – towards meurette-style eggs. 89–90.
