Domaine Ferret Pouilly-Fuisse Les Perrieres 2019

This Pouilly-Fuissé opens with creamy honeysuckle on the nose. A generous mouthfeel complements a nice ripeness and intense richness with notes of gingerbread and flowers. The wine is ample, smooth and well balanced, with a vivid, spicy finish. With age, it will gain in richness and fully reveal itself.

Pair with chicken prepared with Thai spices, gratin of scallops with a curried sauce, veal with vanilla and sultanas, and rich, creamy cow's milk cheeses.

Perrières usually provides the highest degrees, but with energy. A little fuller in colour, with interesting aromatic waves including clementines and almond milk. Very complete, fills the mouth, with ripe pears to follow, a little bit of heat, very good weight and all in balance again. A large-scale Pouilly-Fuissé.

This has a lovely definition of crisp, lemony fruit, with hints of spice and a suggestion of butter. The texture is fresh and lively, and the length is surprisingly long. This wine comes from a 1.15ha parcel planted at mid-slope in stony soils, with vines nearly 50 years of age. The grapes are lightly crushed and fermented in cask (20% new), where they stay for approximately 10 months before being racked, then finishing their maturation in cask.
