About the Edetaria Finca La Pedrissa 2018 750ml
Made exclusively from Carinena/Carignan from ancient 80-year-old vines grown in poor, rocky, and calcareous soil called ‘tapas blanc’, from which Romans extracted stones for their buildings. Thanks to the soil’s austerity, this Carinena offers a unique expression that’s rich and highly concentrated. Gosh, I want a case, but sadly only 10 cases in total arrived in NZ. Scoring 94 in Decanter and awarded their 10 Top Full-Bodied Spanish Reds in April 2021. The pedigree is all there, you just need the patients and the cellar in which to age it. Given 10 years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar and there will be magic in the bottle.
Smells
layers of complexity with florals, a series of black fruits, cedar, red clay, and hints of iron filings with a toasty vanilla edge.
Tastes
The palate is overwhelming juicy but balanced perfectly by the chalky tannic spine. Flavours of vibrant red berries, red and black liquorice with a meaty vein, all add to the charm. The components are all there, fruit, structure, and length and with time the harmony, complexity and drive will be spellbinding.
