Deep red with violet tones. The nose presents intense aromas of black and red fruits such as plums, blueberries, and cherries intermingled with fresh notes recalling bay leaf, cedar, and violets. Juicy on the palate with sweet, round tannins that lend good structure and volume and a long, fresh, and elegant finish. Recommended for the cellar.
94 Points by Patricio Tapia
Coyam began in 2001, as a way of showing that Colchagua could indeed produce Mediterranean wines made with heat-loving varieties such as syrah, but also with carmenere and mourvèdre. The idea, which was a bit exotic at the time, is now fully extended in the valley, and Coyam is already a classic on the Chilean scene. This year, the base is syrah and carmenere in similar percentages that add up to more than 70% of the blend, but it also has some carignan (5%), grenache (4%), mourvèdre (4%), and even 1% tempranillo, among others. In a warm vintage, Coyam is voluptuous and rich in flavors of ripe fruit and spicy notes, although it's important to note that this is not an overripe red. The tannins and acidity are responsible for putting everything in its place. An excellent version.
