About the BIRA! South Africa BWCR 2017 56% ABV 750ml
This independant bottled rum is brought to us by bottling newcomer Bira! by 77 spirits. Founder and friend of the store Karl Mudzamba selects the rums with his wife, and releases them to a only a couple of thirsty provinces.
This is from South African distillery Mhoba and is matured in ex bourbon barrels. They make non-agricole cane juice rums of several marks including long fermentations and the use of dunder(dunder is not used in this expression).
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Tropical fruit, mint, charred driftwood.
Palate: Funky, oaky, and robust. It’s really unlike any other cane juice rum.
There’s grilled pineapple, overripe banana, furniture polish, old leather, and maybe a couple of lemon drops. Lingering oak finish. This is a first class flight to South Africa, via Jamaica and Guadeloupe. - Robert T. Salmon
