About the Westie Sponge Edition No.4 Ledaig 1995 29 Year Old 52% ABV 700ml
Westie Sponge Four is a 1995, 29 year old Ledaig single malt distilled at Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull. It was matured in a refill sherry butt before being bottled at natural cask strength.
Westie Sponge is our series that celebrates the distinct and charismatic malts of the Western Highlands and Islands. This is a beautiful example of Ledaig from an era when the distinction between Ledaig and Tobermory wasn’t too clear. This is relatively lightly peated, but with a richly sherried and mature profile all balanced by clean, coastal complexity. A gorgeous and pretty old style profile that recalls many much older highland malts.
We love this style and it’s a very specific and difficult profile of malt whisky to find these days. So we were delighted to be able to bottle this as the latest edition in our Westie Sponge series – a series which wouldn’t feel complete without representation from Mull’s famous single malt.
