About the Wemyss Glen Spey 1994 27 Year Old 46% ABV 700ml
From indie bottler Wemyss Malts comes this great single cask Glen Spey. It was distilled in 1994, and matured for 27 years in a hogshead, which yielded just 221 bottles in 2022. Glen Spey is one of the five distilleries in the town of Rothes. The distillery was founded in 1878, by local corn merchant James Stuart. It was initially an oatmeal mill named ‘Mill of Rothes’, and Stuart added equipment for whisky distillation a couple of years later. The distillery is now part of spirits giant Diageo. Most of Glen Spey’s production is used in Justerini & Brooks blends, making single malt bottlings rare. Glen Spey 27 Years Old Wemyss Malts Bough To The Breeze 1994, has a delicate nose with fresh and grassy aromas of dry hay, floral barley, herbal honey, cider apples and creamy vanilla. On the palate you’ll find flavours of fresh linen, wild mint, roasted chestnuts, zesty orange peel, creamy milk chocolate and green apples. The finish is gentle with lingering dark chocolate, nutmeg and candied ginger.
