SMWS Wandering Alchemy 10 Year Old Blended Scotch

Wandering Alchemy is a 10 Year Old small-batch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky created by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) for its 2025 Whisky Wanderers release. Rather than coming from one distillery, the blend incorporates malt whisky from all five Scotch whisky-producing regions: Speyside, Highlands, Lowlands, Islay and Campbeltown. The components were matured across bourbon, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and HTMC hogsheads before being combined and bottled at a natural strength of 58.4% ABV. The result is a characterful, lightly peated whisky combining honeyed sweetness with heathery smoke, medicinal and coastal notes, herbs, tar and warming spice.

Food Pairing: Pair with smoked brisket, grilled lamb, smoked salmon, aged cheddar, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, charcuterie, or salted caramel desserts.

Tasting Notes: Rich and lightly peated, balancing honeyed sweetness with soft smoke, medicinal herbs, coastal salinity, resinous wood and savoury complexity.

Nose: Soft heathery peat smoke leads into pine, camphor and cooling bonfire embers, followed by seaweed, aromatic herbs and honeyed sweetness.

Palate: Rich and mouth-coating, with herbal and medicinal character, dried mint and mineral notes developing alongside smoke, dark savoury flavours and gentle sweetness.

Finish: Long and complex, with wood spice, resin, tar, smoked olive, aniseed and salted liquorice leaving a smoky, savoury impression.

Serve: Enjoy neat in a tulip-shaped whisky glass and allow it time to open. At 58.4% ABV, adding a small amount of water can reveal additional wood smoke, herbs, honeyed sweetness and phenolic character.
