About the Virgil Kaine Rip-Track Kentucky Straight Bourbon
A versatile, "rule-breaking" high-rye bourbon crafted with a chef’s precision! Named after the railroad "Repair, Inspect, and Paint" (RIP) tracks where locomotives were serviced, Rip-Track is designed by Charleston chefs David Szlam and Ryan Meany. It features a punchy, high-rye mash bill (36% rye) that is aged in new charred American oak before being finished with sherry cask notes to round out the spice with a touch of dark fruit. Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), it is purposefully built to be the "cocktail’s cocksure sidekick," standing up perfectly in an Old Fashioned while remaining smooth enough for neat sipping.
NOSE
Bright and inviting with classic aromas of toasted oak, orange zest, and creamy butterscotch, underpinned by a subtle "medicinal" rye spice and hint of sorghum.
PALATE
Well-balanced and slightly smoky. Sweet entries of caramel and golden raisins are quickly met by a "devilish wink" of spicy rye, dried apricot, and a touch of ginger.
FINISH
Long, peppery, and robust. It leaves a lingering trail of vanilla, dry tobacco leaf, and a sophisticated touch of oak tannins.
