About the Vinedo Chadwick 2018
Viñedo Chadwick 2018 is an extraordinarily elegant, precise, and masterfully structured icon red wine from Chile, crafted primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon with a 3% addition of Petit Verdot. Sourced entirely from the historic, high-altitude alluvial gravel terraces of Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley—originally the personal polo field of Alfonso Chadwick—this exceptional vintage benefits from long, gentle ripening conditions. Aged for 22 months in a combination of 80% new French oak barrels and 20% Stockinger foudres, it displays a deep ruby-red color with violet reflections. The bouquet reveals a beautifully layered and linear aromatic profile of blackcurrant, red cherry, and raspberry, intricately woven with notes of pine tree, violet, fresh tarragon, dark chocolate, and cedar wood. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied yet remarkably agile and tight framework, driven by a concentrated core of dark forest fruits that is seamlessly balanced by a fine line of refreshing acidity and ultra-fine, silky, cream-textured tannins, leading into an extraordinarily long, sophisticated, and layered finish with a lingering chalky and mineral-filled complexity.
Food Pairing: Pairs spectacularly with charcoal-grilled dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted venison loin with juniper reduction, slow-braised wild boar stew, or rosemary-crusted rack of lamb.
99 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Viñedo Chadwick is a spectacular wine from front to back, opening with a refined, poised and perfumed nose that seamlessly combines floral-herbal and toasted dark-fruited aromas with ever-increasing complexity. The palate is svelte and seamless, exuding a perfectly textured polish with a rich yet composed intensity. It explodes into a long, layered, paradoxically energetic and yet slow-moving finish, remaining perfectly focused while expanding horizontally and vertically with an ultra-refined, impeccable tannin structure. The combination of the obvious exactitude that goes into this wine and the outstanding nature of this vintage have made a bona fide modern classic. The blend is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, aged for 22 months in 80% new barrels and 20% foudre.
98 Points - James Suckling
The aromas show blackcurrant, pine-tree, violet and light spearmint character. Full-bodied, yet reserved and tight with fine, creamy tannins. Hints of currants and fresh herbs. Extremely long and layered. Try after 2022.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Refined, with a fine-grained texture to the vibrantly structured dried red fruit and spice flavors that show an umami-like richness. Lithe accents of dried green herbs midpalate lead to a mineral-filled finish, with plenty of savory muscle. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027.
