Racy fruit, showing currants, plums and engaging black peppercorns. A hint of white pepper, too. This is a juicy, medium-bodied red, coated by firm but silky tannins with elegant expressions of red fruit in the middle. Carmenere and syrah. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Carménère - Syrah Vértice is 51% Carménère and 49% Syrah from Apalta, Colchagua, aged for 22 months in 40% new barrels. Dark garnet red. The nose presents herbal and ash notes with hints of boldo, ripe blackberry and oaky aromas. Broad on the palate with polished tannins, precise freshness and a silky texture. The lengthy finish delivers plenty of juice and fruit. The cold year brought out fresh, fruit-forward character.

The 2021 Vertice Apalta Vineyard is a classical blend of 52% Carmenère and 48% Syrah from a warm vineyard in Apalta in the Colchagua Valley, produced with the advice of Australian consultant John Duval of Penfolds fame. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in a combination of 300-liter French oak barrels, 40% of them new (70% of the volume) and untoasted 2,500-liter French oak foudres for 18 months. It's powerful and concentrated, with good ripeness, 14% alcohol and balanced acidity, spicy and expressive. They are in the process of certifying the vineyard in organic viticulture.
