About the Van Loggerenberg 'Breton' Cabernet Franc 2023
Van Loggerenberg 'Breton' Cabernet Franc 2023 is a refined, Loire-inspired red wine crafted by winemaker Lukas van Loggerenberg using fruit sourced from two granite-soil vineyard sites in Polkadraai, Stellenbosch. Named "Breton" after the traditional Loire Valley name for Cabernet Franc, this vintage was fermented with 25% whole bunches and aged in a combination of concrete tanks and seasoned 500-liter French oak puncheons. In the glass, it displays a vibrant violet-ruby color. The nose offers an expressive bouquet of ripe red plums, blackberries, and wild violets mingled with complex notes of dried herbs, paprika, graphite, and cedar. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, featuring crunchy red berry fruit, energetic natural acidity, and fine, chalky-textured tannins that linger on a dry, spicy, and mineral finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted lamb chops, duck breast, rustic ratatouille, grilled steaks with peppercorn sauce, charcuterie, and wild mushroom dishes.
94 Points - James Suckling
