Valenciso Reserva Rioja 2019 is an exceptionally elegant, energetic, and masterfully crafted red wine that beautifully bridges the gap between traditional and modern Rioja styles. Sourced entirely from low-yielding, old-vine Tempranillo plots grown on clay-limestone soils in the northern tier of Rioja Alta, this wine underwent natural fermentation in concrete vats before maturing for 19 months in refined French oak barrels and an additional 14 months settling back in concrete. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby color with a prominent garnet rim. The highly expressive, nuanced nose unfolds with vibrant aromas of dark cherries, wild raspberries, and juicy blackberries, complexly layered with sophisticated undercurrents of licorice, sweet baking spices, tobacco leaf, and subtle chalky minerality. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, and beautifully balanced, offering excellent fluid coherence where its bright core of savory fruit is framed by a lively line of natural acidity and silky, polished tannins, leading to a long, precise finish full of tension and depth.
