The Prisoner Pinot Noir 2021 is a rich, luscious, and boldly stylized red wine that marks the inaugural vintage of this highly anticipated varietal expansion from the iconic brand. Sourced from premier cool-climate vineyards across the Sonoma Coast, including components from the Russian River Valley and Carneros, this wine departs from traditional delicate styles to deliver a more intense, fruit-forward experience. In the glass, it reveals a brilliant medium ruby hue. The expressive, highly aromatic nose opens with inviting notes of fresh cranberry, ripe dark cherry, and black raspberry, beautifully layered with nuances of warm cinnamon spice, clove, cardamom, and fresh lavender. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied and voluptuously textured, showing excellent fluid coherence where its core of juicy red fruits is accented by hints of rhubarb, black tea, and a subtle touch of earthy minerality. Matured for 14 months in French oak barrels (40% new), it finishes with silky, soft tannins and a refreshing line of orange-tinted acidity.
