About the Tenuta Viglione Primitivo Puglia 750ml
Critic tasting note (2020 vintage):
Located in Puglia, in Viglione, at the border between the provinces of Bari and Taranto, Tenuta Viglione produces a range of characterful wines made from organically grown grapes. Although I'm rarely charmed by wines made from the Primitivo grape, I must admit this one pleasantly surprised me. A wine of good intensity, slightly evolved, revealing aromas of plums, cherries, redcurrants, leather, and spices. On the palate, a touch of residual sugar smooths out the edges and adds to the wine’s overall charm. Good mouthfeel with body, a certain breadth, and a delicious persistence of flavors. The tannins are soft and rounded, while the generous fruit is well balanced by appropriate acidity. At this price, it’s a good buy and a great way to explore something off the beaten path. Serve at 16 °C. Perfect with beef filet skewers, duck breast with figs, rack of lamb with port sauce, rabbit with prunes, ribs, or osso buco.
