About the Chateau Figeac
A Premier Grand Cru Classé A and one of Saint-Émilion's most iconic estates, Château Figeac reveals captivating aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, violet, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle baking spice. Powerful yet impeccably refined, it delivers silky tannins, vibrant freshness, exceptional precision, and an extraordinarily long, elegant finish with remarkable aging potential.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom risotto, black truffle dishes, aged Comté, or braised short ribs.
96 Points - James Suckling
The 2017 Château Figeac is dense and beautifully layered, revealing aromas of blackberries, blueberries and subtle hazelnut. Full-bodied, tightly focused and remarkably refined, it features impressive youthful tannins wrapped in a velvety texture. Crafted from 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with a lower proportion of Cabernet Franc due to frost, it is both juicy and elegant with excellent aging potential.
96 Points - Wine Spectator
This wine opens gradually with aromas of black tea and sunbaked earth before unveiling a deep core of black currant, fig and blackberry preserves. Layers of iron and espresso cream add complexity through the long, lingering finish, making this a wine built for patience. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2042.
95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Produced exclusively from first-generation fruit, the 2017 Château Figeac is composed of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in new French oak. Aromas of crème de cassis, tobacco, violets, forest floor and earthy spice lead to a medium-bodied palate with seamless texture, silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Elegant and beautifully balanced, it will reward 4–5 years of cellaring and continue to evolve over the next 15–20 years.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
With production reduced by half to approximately 55,000 bottles, the 2017 Château Figeac is crafted from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Expressive aromas of black cherries, plum preserves, black raspberries and kirsch are complemented by dried leaves, cinnamon toast, cassis and lavender. Medium-bodied with vibrant freshness, finely grained tannins and impressive precision, it finishes long with spicy complexity.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc provide impressive structure, firmness and backbone while ripe fruit and lively acidity ensure excellent balance. Juicy, rich and built for aging, this refined Saint-Émilion concludes with a ripe, fruit-filled finish. Best enjoyed from 2024 onward.
93 Points - Decanter
Despite losing 55% of the crop to severe frost and producing yields of just 22 hl/ha, Château Figeac crafted an elegant and confident wine that highlights the estate's signature Cabernet character. Firm tannins support refined fruit, while delicate notes of cold ash and woodsmoke add complexity. Though less intense than the surrounding great vintages, it offers remarkable poise and will continue to develop beautifully through 2040.
