About the Whisky Sponge Special Edition No.2 Springbank 1996 26 Year Old 700ml
This is the second Whisky Sponge Special Edition. It is a 26 year old Springbank, distilled in 1996 and matured fully in a 1st fill sherry butt, before bottling into hand-blown glass at natural cask strength of 53.5%.
This Springbank displays a deep and intense profile of sherry that heavily involves characters of game meats, medicines, rancio, walnuts and herbal liqueurs. A style that is perhaps more reminiscent of a 1960s sherry cask profile. While it is undoubtedly robust and powerful, it balances well with the Springbank distillery character and the qualities of soft waxiness, subtle peat smoke and even some coastal elements and fruits all come through in this beautiful dram.
