Sierra Norte Black Heirloom Corn Whiskey

Produced by Sierra Norte in San Agustín de las Juntas, Oaxaca, Sierra Norte Black Heirloom Corn Whiskey is a small-batch, single-barrel Mexican whiskey crafted from rare native Oaxacan black corn. The mash combines 85% heirloom black corn with 15% malted barley and is double distilled before maturation in French oak red-wine barrels. Bottled at 45% ABV, the black corn produces a rich, earthy profile distinguished by banana, roasted corn and dark fruit alongside warming ginger, oak and spice.

Food Pairing: Grilled pork, smoked beef, mole dishes, aged cheese, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, or caramelized banana desserts.

Tasting Notes: Rich and earthy, combining roasted black corn and ripe fruit with banana, dark sweetness, toasted oak and warming spice.

Nose: Aromatic and distinctive, with maraschino cherry and banana peel accompanied by earthy grain, roasted corn and subtle French oak.

Palate: Rich and smooth, developing ripe plantain and roasted corn alongside brown sugar, gentle oak and warming spice.

Finish: Gently warming and lingering, with roasted corn, ginger, almond, vanilla and seasoned oak.

Serve: Enjoy neat at room temperature in a Glencairn or tulip-shaped glass, with a small splash of water, or in a Mexican-style Manhattan where its rich black-corn character can remain prominent.
