About the Serafini & Vidotto Il Rosso dell'Abazia Montello Asolo 2015 750ml
Montello Asolo (or Asolo Montello, and previously Montello e Colli Asolani) is a DOC of the Veneto wine region in northeastern Italy. This DOC once specialized in two very disparate wine styles; sparkling, white Prosecco and dry reds based on Bordeaux grape varieties. However, since 2005 has been broadened out to cover a wider range of styles.
The viticultural zone covers a relatively small area, taking in the three parishes of Castelcucco, Cornuda and Monfumo, and parts of 10 other neighboring parishes. One of these 10 is the town of Asolo, which gives its name to the Colli Asolani referred to in the DOC title. For more information on the "little mountain" in its title, see the Montello Rosso page.
Characteristics
Pepper, spice, raspberry, cherry, plum, leather.
A Bordeaux Blend, at its most basic, is any combination of those grape varieties typically used to make the red wines of Bordeaux. The phrase, which seems to have originated with British wine merchants in the 19th Century, relates as much to wines made from the blend as to the grape variety combination itself.
Wine style
Red Bordeaux Blends are known for their powerful structure and deep flavors. Dark fruits and berries such as plum and blackcurrant are commonly used to describe the flavors of red Bordeaux, although there is an unlimited range of terms that have been ascribed to them. Tannins tend to be relatively high in these wines, giving them a firm structure.
