About the Segni di Langa Gian Luca Colombo Barolo
A magnificent Northern Italian red wine displaying a bright, translucent garnet color with graceful ruby undertones. Masterfully crafted by acclaimed winemaker Gian Luca Colombo—recipient of the prestigious Gambelli Award for best young Italian enologist—under his low-intervention Segni di Langa label, this artisanal expression is a thoughtful blend of estate-grown Nebbiolo sourced from prized plots in Roddi and La Morra. The highly expressive, ethereal nose opens with a soaring, Burgundian-style bouquet of wild strawberries, red currants, and fresh red cherries. The complex nose is beautifully supported by regional characteristics of dried rose petals, hibiscus, sweet baking spices, tobacco leaf, and a distinct hint of minty balsam. On the palate, it balances a lively, medium-bodied red fruit core and a vibrant, linear alpine acidity with silky, fine-grained tannins that display exceptional poise, concluding in a remarkably long, savory, and clean finish defined by a delicate streak of chalky earthiness.
Food Pairing: Pairs flawlessly with slow-braised lamb shoulder with rosemary, traditional Piedmontese tajarin with shaved truffles, roasted duck breast, and aged cheeses.
