San Felice Pugnitello 2006

San Felice Pugnitello 2006 is a historic, monumental, and beautifully evolved Old World red wine that holds immense significance as the landmark vintage that put this grape on the global map. It pours an impenetrable, ink-like deep ruby-purple colour into the glass, lifting with a highly complex, multi-layered tertiary bouquet that masterfully develops aromas of tanned leather, animal skin, and dark chocolate, seamlessly intertwined with dense undertones of dried plums, preserved black cherries, and a subtle herbaceousness. On the palate, this full-bodied, low-yield mono-varietal is remarkably massive, warm, and structured, coating the mouth with pure intensities of dark stone fruits, savory tobacco, and integrated barrique traces. Matured meticulously for 18 to 20 months in French oak barriques followed by extensive bottle aging, its big-boned power balances a lively, accentuating vein of acidity against chewy, completely integrated, and velvety noble tannins that carry into a long, persistent finish.

Food Pairing: This robust and beautifully matured vintage pairs exquisitely with premium, rustic Tuscan fare, including traditional wild boar stew (cinghiale in umido), a rich red wine and beef pepper stew (peposo), roasted venison, prime cuts of grilled dry-aged ribeye steak, or a platter of truffled brie and highly aged pecorino cheese.
