About the Sakurao Single Malt Sauternes Cask
Produced by SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Sakurao Single Malt Sauternes Cask Finish is a limited Japanese single malt made entirely from malted barley. The whisky is initially matured in Bourbon casks before receiving an extended 18-month finish in Sauternes wine casks. Bottled at 50% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring, it develops a rich dessert-like profile of honey, orchard fruit and cinnamon alongside custard, banana and pear.
Food Pairing: Foie gras, roasted duck, blue cheese, fruit tart, crème brûlée, or almond pastries with honey and ripe stone fruit.
Tasting Notes: Rich and fruit-forward, balancing honey and ripe orchard fruit with custard, banana, pear, cinnamon and sweet Sauternes wine influence.
Nose: Sweet and aromatic, with honey and apple accompanied by cinnamon and ripe fruit.
Palate: Rich and indulgent, developing creamy custard alongside ripe banana, pear, honeyed sweetness and gentle wine-cask character.
Finish: Long and sweet, with lingering honey, ripe fruit and elegant Sauternes influence.
Serve: Enjoy neat at room temperature in a Glencairn or tulip-shaped whisky glass; a few drops of water can open additional honey, orchard fruit and dessert-wine character.
