The Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco 2020 is an elegant, medium-bodied red wine from the La Morra commune of Piedmont. Known for its "classicism with transparency," this vintage offers assertive aromas of graphite, violets, and mint. On the palate, it is linear and racy, featuring bright flavours of dried strawberry, citrus, and spice, supported by velvety tannins and a stony, mineral texture. It is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the historic Marcenasco sub-zone, which has been planted with vines since the 12th century.

The 2020 Barolo Marcenasco is an international classic, and I have had the fortune of following this wine over 20-plus vintages. I always like the unassuming personality of Marcenasco. It gives you character but never stretches too far in any one stylistic direction. This vintage shows some sweet oak and cinnamon, but you also get plenty of bright fruit. You could fault it for a little too much oak, which appears with more strength in 2020.
