Quinta Da Taboadella Alfrocheiro Reserva 2021 750ml

The Alfrocheiro grape variety first emerged in Portugal and in the Dão region after the phylloxera epidemic and finds its natural territory in this region. We do not know of any foreign or national origins of this grape variety, but it was once known as the “Tinta Francesa de Viseu” (= French red grape variety from Viseu). It is a very rare, high-altitude grape variety, that teaches us to produce small amounts and respect its fragility. Tha Taboadella Alfrocheiro Reserva red has firm, delicate and structuring tannins.

Refined dry red wine full of solar heat. Moderately intense ruby red color with thick sparkling tears. Ripe nose of prunes and fresh black currants, southern spice with black pepper at the fore, minerally also in the evolution. Velvety texture that relies on the harmony between super-ripe acids and velor tannins; mouth-filling without being lavish and softly expanding in the long finish.

Perfect with equally slow-ripened beef, braised game and root vegetables, braised fruit vegetables and Sharp cheeses.

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast

This impressively rich wine is textured and full of black fruits. Polished by the wood aging, the wine's ripe tannins have been smoothed and enhanced. Produced from Alfrocheiro, one of the indigenous varieties of the Dão region, the wine is still structured and should age well. Drink from 2026.
