About the Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvee Vieilles Vignes
Crafted in the famed Morey-Saint-Denis appellation of the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is an legendary, ultra-rare blue-chip Pinot Noir widely regarded as the ultimate benchmark expression of Clos de la Roche. Domaine Ponsot is the single largest landholder in this Grand Cru climat, owning old vines planted as far back as 1911 and 1947. Renowned for their uncompromising, highly idiosyncratic approach to winemaking, the estate utilizes low-yield old vines, practice no new oak barrel usage (aging exclusively in decades-old neutral oak casks), and avoid sulfur additions until bottling. Sourced from shallow, stony limestone soils overlying hard Jurassic rock, this cuvée offers an extraordinary combination of wild aromatic power, intense savory complexity, and towering longevity.
Food Pairing: Roasted venison tenderloin, braised duck breast with cherry reduction, squab, truffled beef tenderloin, wild mushroom risotto, and fine aged French cheeses like Époisses de Bourgogne or Cîteaux.
