About the Poli Cleopatra Moscato Oro Grappa
Poli Cleopatra Moscato Oro Grappa is a magnificent, highly aromatic, and elegant barrel-aged grappa produced by the historic Poli Distillerie in Schiavon, Veneto. This refined spirit belongs to the "Cleopatra" series, named in honor of the ancient alchemist who invented the first alembic still for distilling gold. It is masterfully crafted from the fresh pomace of aromatic Moscato Fior d'Arancio and Moscato Bianco grapes sourced from the sun-drenched volcanic soils of the Euganean Hills. The pomace is distilled utilizing the distillery's innovative Crysopea vacuum bain-marie alembic still, a revolutionary method that distills at a lower temperature to preserve the incredibly delicate, volatile floral and fruit terpenes of the Moscato grape. The distillate is then aged patiently for nearly one year in French oak barriques, rounding out its edges and imparting a luxurious golden hue and a subtle pastry-like complexity.
Food Pairing: The expressive floral aromatics, stone fruit sweetness, and delicate oak influence of this aged grappa make it a spectacular match for traditional Italian pastries like panettone, pandoro, and almond-based cantucci. It also pairs beautifully with fresh fruit tarts, peach cobbler, or vanilla bean panna cotta. For a savory contrast, enjoy it alongside mild, creamy blue cheeses like Gorgonzola Dolce, or a selection of dried apricots and toasted hazelnuts.
TASTING NOTES - A bright, beautiful, clear golden-amber hue. The texture is medium-bodied, exceptionally smooth, and blankets the palate in a velvety, soft, and harmonious warmth with zero harshness.
NOSE - Deeply captivating and highly aromatic, bursting with elegant notes of fresh orange blossoms, ripe yellow peaches, and honeyed muscat grapes, beautifully integrated with fine undertones of vanilla bean and toasted brioche from the French oak.
PALATE - Soft, clean, and masterfully balanced. A naturally sweet and fruity entry filled with glazed apricots, citrus peel, and white honey seamlessly expands across the mouth, met mid-palate by delicate notes of soft wood tannins, baking spices, and a refined grape-skin structure.
FINISH - Long, highly elegant, and cleanly aromatic. The sweet stone fruit and floral characteristics slowly fade, leaving a satisfying, comforting trail of warm vanilla, dry oak spice, and a lingering echo of fresh orange zest.
SERVE - Best enjoyed neat at a cellar temperature of roughly 18°C (64°F) in a traditional tulip-shaped grappa glass or spirits snifter, allowing it to sit and breathe for a few minutes before sipping to unleash its volatile aromatics. Avoid chilling or adding ice, as it will mute the intricate Moscato character.
