About the Poggiocaro Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva 2016 750ml

The Tenute Poggiocaro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a captivating expression of Sangiovese grapes cultivated in the heart of Montalcino, Tuscany. This prestigious wine undergoes meticulous ageing, resulting in a complex and rewarding drinking experience for any wine enthusiast.

Unveiling the Colour:

Pour yourself a glass of Poggiocaro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva and admire the rich ruby red colour. As the wine swirls in the glass, you'll notice subtle garnet reflections, hinting at the wine's maturity. This deep colour is a testament to the extended ageing process, promising a full-bodied and concentrated flavour profile.

Aromatic Exploration:

Hold the glass close and take a deep inhale. The bouquet is intense and characteristic of Brunello di Montalcino. Ripe red berry fruits like plums and cherries take centre stage, interwoven with enticing hints of spice. These could be notes of black pepper, cinnamon, or even a touch of nutmeg, adding an extra layer of complexity to the aroma. With further swirling, more subtle nuances may emerge, such as dried violets or balsamic notes.

The Palate Profile:

The first sip of Poggiocaro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a revelation. The wine boasts a full-bodied mouthfeel, enveloping the palate with its richness and concentration. The fruit flavours from the nose translate beautifully, offering a burst of ripe dark berries with a touch of sweetness. However, the extended ageing introduces a captivating savoury dimension. Silky tannins, polished by the time spent in oak barrels, create a pleasant structure that frames the fruit without being overbearing. A refreshing vein of acidity cuts through the richness, ensuring a balanced and lingering finish.

Food Pairings for an Elevated Experience:

Poggiocaro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a wine that demands culinary companionship. Its bold structure and complex flavours make it a perfect match for a variety of hearty dishes. Here are some suggestions to elevate your dining experience:

Red Meat: This Brunello pairs exceptionally well with red meat dishes that can stand up to its bold character. Consider grilled steaks, roast lamb, or hearty stews.
Game: The earthy notes of Brunello complement game birds like pheasant or venison beautifully.
Mature Cheeses: Pair this wine with aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano or a mature Gouda. The cheese's richness will find a delightful counterpoint in the wine's fruit and tannins.
Tuscan Specialities: Honour the wine's origin by pairing it with traditional Tuscan dishes. Consider Peposo (black pepper-crusted beef), wild boar ragù with pappardelle pasta, or roasted vegetables with fresh herbs.
