About the Quinta da Plansel Select Tinta Barroca
Crafted in the sun-soaked Montemor-o-Novo subregion of the Alentejo, Portugal, Quinta da Plansel Select Tinta Barroca is a deeply distinctive, single-varietal red wine that showcases an uncommon expression of a classic Portuguese grape. Founded by German viticulturist Jorge Böhm and led by winemaker Dorina Lindemann, Quinta da Plansel is renowned for its scientific focus on clonal selection and pure varietal expressions. While Tinta Barroca is traditionally famous as a key blending grape in Port wines, Plansel thrives in showcasing its remarkable potential as a dry, table wine. Grown on schistose and granite-rich soils, the grapes benefit from hot Mediterranean days tempered by cool night breezes, allowing for full phenolic ripeness and sugar concentration while preserving essential freshness. Vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels, this cuvée offers a luxurious blend of ripe dark fruit, velvety texture, and subtle spice.
Food Pairing: Slow-roasted pork belly, Portuguese-style braised beef cheeks, grilled ribeye steak, roasted duck breast, hearty lamb tagine, and aged hard cheeses like Manchego or Queijo da Beira Baixa.
