About the Piteira Reserva Doc Tinto
Crafted in the sun-drenched Alentejo region of Southern Portugal, Piteira Reserva DOC Tinto is a deeply characterful, full-bodied red wine that showcases the authentic viticultural heritage of the Granja-Amareleja subregion. Produced by Encostas de Alqueva under the direction of legendary Portuguese winemaker José Piteira, this Reserva cuvée is sourced from low-yielding old vines growing in harsh, dry schist and clay soils near the Spanish border. Blended primarily from traditional indigenous Portuguese grape varieties—including Moreto, Trincadeira, Aragonez (Tempranillo), and Alicant Bouschet—the wine undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and traditional vats before extended aging in fine French and Portuguese oak barrels. The result is a plush, rustic-yet-refined red wine that balances intense dark fruit depth with savory Mediterranean warmth.
Food Pairing: Slow-roasted pork shoulder, Portuguese-style braised beef cheeks, grilled lamb chops, hearty game stews, roasted duck, and aged hard cheeses like Queijo de Azeitão or Manchego.
