About the Chateau Mouton Rothschild Le Petit Mouton 2018
The second wine of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, this Pauillac expresses ripe black fruit, cassis, cedar, graphite, and refined spice. Matured with the same meticulous care as the Grand Vin, it delivers polished tannins, impressive depth, freshness, and a persistent finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs best with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck, venison, and aged hard cheeses.
97 Points - James Suckling
Real purity of fruit with currants, blackberries and flowers that show on both the nose and palate. It's full-bodied with layers of ripe tannins that are polished and creamy. Delicious finish. So attractive now. Second wine of Mouton. Ethereal. But give this three or four years to come around.
94 Points - Decanter
Exuberant as always but here with pretty serious tannins, the result of small berries and a low yield of 28hl/ha, so a little more tension than many vintages of Petit Mouton. This gives a finesse that is highly appealing with tons of coffee, chocolate and damson character. Harvest September 10 to October 3. Drinking Window 2022-2040.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A brilliant effort that matches most estates' Grand Vins, the 2018 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild reveals creme de cassis, candied violets, graphite, lead pencil shavings, and crushed stone minerality. Beautifully concentrated with polished tannins and outstanding aging potential. Rating: 94+.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Fresh and pure, with a mouthwatering edge to the cassis and bitter plum flavors that form the core. A bright iron streak defines the finish. Very focused.
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Le Petit Mouton is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple with Morello cherries, blackcurrant, preserved plums, potpourri, and Chinese five spice. Velvety tannins, vibrant freshness, and a minty finish.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Made from young vines, this second wine of Mouton Rothschild was aged in 100% new oak. Vanilla notes accompany ripe black fruits, richness, and density. Drink from 2025.
