About the Peter Wetzer Blumenthal Kekfrankos
Crafted by low-intervention artisan winemaker Peter Wetzer in the Sopron region of northwestern Hungary, 'Blumenthal' Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) is a pure, site-specific expression of terroir located near the Austrian border. Sourced from the historic Blumenthal single vineyard—planted with old vines in slate, limestone, and iron-rich mica soils—this wine is farmed according to organic and natural principles. Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in open wooden vats with ambient cellar temperatures, it undergoes gentle basket pressing and ages in neutral Hungarian oak casks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal added sulfur.
Food Pairing: Duck breast with sour cherry reduction, roasted venison, grilled lamb chops, goulash, and aged hard cheeses.
