About the Post Scriptum de Chryseia Douro Red 2019
Crafted in Portugal’s historic Douro Valley, Post Scriptum de Chryseia 2019 is the celebrated second wine of Chryseia, produced by Prats & Symington—a prestigious joint venture between Bordeaux’s Bruno Prats (formerly of Château Cos d'Estournel) and the renowned Symington Family Estates. Combining classical Bordeaux winemaking precision with the unique, sun-drenched slate and schist terroirs of the Douro, Post Scriptum is made from the same high-altitude estate vineyards as Chryseia (Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz). Composed primarily of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, the grapes are rigorously selected and aged for 12 months in 400-liter French oak barrels to deliver a profile that is earlier-drinking, incredibly fresh, and deeply expressive of indigenous Portuguese varietals.
Food Pairing: Roasted rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, braised pork shoulder, wild boar stew, mushroom risotto, and aged hard cheeses like Manchego or São Jorge.
93 Points - James Suckling
Fine and ripe but restrained nose with a mineral quality seeping through from the fresh blackberry and blueberry fruit. Some cigar box and cocoa powder, too. This is quite firm on the palate with tight tannins, delivered in a fresh but caressing mode. Compared with the riper and flavorful 2020, this has more edges, but shows more layers and finesse, too. Drink or hold.
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This is the second wine of Bordeaux winemaker Bruno Prats and the Symington family's Chryseia. It has a fine balance that has light tannins contrasting comfortably with black currant fruits. There is some aging potential in this wine, so drink from 2024. Roger Voss
