Orin Swift Cellars Abstract 2022 is a bold, opulent, and intentionally hedonistic Californian red wine crafted under the vision of winemaker Dave Phinney. An artful collage of individual lots sourced from premier vineyards across the state, this signature Rhône-style blend is aged for eight months in French oak barrels (31% new). In the glass, it reveals an inky, dark purple core with a vibrant, neon ruby rim. The nose is brooding and aromatically expressive, bursting with scents of ripe black plum, cassis, dark cocoa, and cracked black pepper, beautifully balanced by underlying layers of dried porcini mushrooms, sweet oak, and a musk of forest floor. On the palate, the wine is viscous, full-bodied, and enveloping, sweeping across the mouth with a velvety texture and an engaging fluid coherence. Saturated flavors of blueberry preserves, anise, and balsamic glaze are framed by robust yet polished tannins and an unexpected thread of lively acidity, culminating in a long, warming finish with a distinct savory, umami-laced grip.
