Natte Valleij P.O.W. 2021

Natte Valleij P.O.W. 2021 is a characterful, elegant, and historically inspired red blend produced by winemaker Alex Milner at the historic Natte Valleij estate in South Africa. Named in honor of an Italian prisoner of war housed on the farm in 1943 who helped work the vineyards, this wine is a unique South African take on a Bordeaux-style blend with a Rhône influence. Sourced from dryland bush vines and old vineyard sites across the Coastal Region, it is naturally fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral oak barrels and large foudres. In the glass, it presents a dark ruby hue with vibrant aromatics of spiced black cherry, dark plum, wild raspberry, cracked peppercorn, and subtle tobacco leaf. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, offering bright red and dark fruit flavors supported by a fine sour-cherry acidity and soft, well-integrated cocoa-dusted tannins leading to a savory, spicy finish.
