About the Murray McDavid Benchmark Ledaig 15 Year Old
Murray McDavid Benchmark Ledaig 15 Year Old is a limited-release Highland single malt Scotch whisky distilled in 2009 at Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull and bottled in spring 2024 at 53.2% ABV. Initially matured in bourbon hogsheads before spending its final two years in first-fill Murça Tawny Port casks, it offers a bold balance of coastal peat smoke, rich berries and fruity sweetness. Notes of floral smoke, sea salt, flint and plum jam lead into a lingering finish of oily malt and gentle smoke.
Food Pairing: Smoked salmon, grilled lamb, roasted duck, aged cheddar, dark chocolate, berry tart or rich fruitcake.
Tasting Notes: Bold and smoky, with coastal peat, mixed berries, floral sweetness, sea salt, plum jam and rich malt.
Nose: Aromatic and smoky, with floral peat smoke, mixed berries and coastal notes.
Palate: Rich and layered, with saline peat, flinty minerality, plum and sweet berry jam.
Finish: Long and lingering, with oily fruit-infused malt and persistent peat smoke.
Serve: Enjoy neat in a Glencairn glass, allowing it to breathe before adding a few drops of water to reveal its smoky and fruit-forward character.
