Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, deeply concentrated, and complex red wine that masterfully showcases the rugged, high-altitude character of the Mayacamas Mountains. Rooted in steep, low-yielding vineyards with well-drained, ancient seabed soils, this wine undergoes an extended growing season influenced by cool marine breezes from San Pablo Bay. Visually striking with a deep, dark magenta or ruby hue, it reveals a powerfully expressive nose rich with aromas of ripe black cherry, mulberry, blackcurrant, and dried fig, beautifully framed by nuances of baking spices, cedarwood, and a distinct hint of pine needles. On the palate, it is exceptionally full-bodied, dense, and structured, layering brooding dark fruits with complex undercurrents of mocha, tapenade, and wild herbs. The mountain-grown tannins are plush yet firmly integrated, beautifully balanced by a refreshing vein of acidity that guides the wine into a remarkably long, savory finish accented by black tea and bramble.

Shows character, with flashes of bay leaf and chestnut giving this a hint of brawn, even, while a tarry spine adds structure. Black currant and black cherry pâte de fruit notes are rich and fleshy as they drive long. The finish offers a touch of torrefied alder that winks at the vintage’s extreme nature, but overall this is solid. Drink now through 2031.
