Montes Folly Syrah 2021 is a monumental and deeply complex Chilean red wine crafted from low-yielding vines grown on the steepest, highest slopes of the estate’s Finca Apalta vineyard. The 2021 growing season benefited from substantial winter rains that replenished the water tables, followed by a cool ripening period that preserved striking acidity and fresh varietal personality. In the glass, it displays an impressive, deep ruby-violet color with concentrated borders. The nose opens with intense, brooding aromas of ripe blueberry, blackberry, and cassis, seamlessly integrated with notes of dark chocolate, black pepper, nutmeg, candy, and premium leather. As it opens, it reveals refined nuances of tobacco, toast, and vanilla derived from 18 months of aging in French oak barrels. On the palate, this ultra-premium Syrah is robust, exceptionally balanced, and full-bodied, carrying a silky texture and a dense mid-palate structure. Polished, velvety tannins and lively acidity lead into a lengthy, powerful finish marked by hints of licorice, sweet baking spice, and a touch of wild game.
