About the Mark Ryan Dead Horse Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Deep ruby colored, the 2021 Dead Horse emits rich, dense aromas of black cherry, blackberry, wet stone, tobacco, and baking spice. The flavors are intense and dramatic, with dark fruits infused with licorice, dark cocoa, and graphite. The fine-grained tannins and lifted acidity give amazing structure for cellaring and a satisfying texture on the finish.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Blackberry, anise and leather aromas form the best power trio since the Jimi Hendrix Experience. You also can't beat the Dead Horse's boysenberry gelato and bittersweet dark chocolate flavors. Additional notes of thyme and fennel provide support, along with elegant, silky tannins and bright acidity.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Deeply structured and generous, with black cherry and red currant flavors that take on orange peel and espresso accents as this builds richness toward polished tannins.
93 Points - James Suckling
A distinctive mint or menthol aroma leads to violet, rose petal, black cherry and graphite flavors in this firmly structured, substantially tannic wine. It should bloom nicely with time. Blended in are 3% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, 2% malbec and 1% petit verdot.
