About the Maison Leroy Savigny Les Beaune 1999 750ml
When Lalou Bize-Leroy took over her father's negociant business in 1964, she became one of the first women to head an important firm in Burgundy. As co-director for many years, she was also a central influence at D.R.C. She still owns one quarter of the domaine.
What distinguishes Lalou Bize-Leroy from her peers? Her relentless pursuit if fine wines which are the direct expressions of their terroir. With courage, she makes wine from extremely low yields (producing crops one fourth the size of her neighbors) and bottles without fining or filtration. In addition, at Domaine Leroy, they have been cultivating their vines under biodynamic conditions since 1989. This means that Leroy wines are free of all chemical treatments, weed killers, pesticides, fungicides, insecticides and artificial fertilizers. Instead, Leroy has stepped back in time and use cosmic rhythms to ensure correct soil tilling and recuperation as well as effective vine care through all phases of the year's cycle.
