The MacPhail's 40 Year Old is a rare and prestigious Speyside single malt, independently bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their "Distillery Labels" range. This expression is particularly intriguing because its distillery of origin remains a closely guarded secret, although it is always sourced from the Speyside region. Maturation takes place in a combination of refill sherry and bourbon barrels, as well as first-fill Sherry casks, resulting in a remarkably rich and mellow profile. The nose offers elegant aromas of toasted malt, heather honey, and hints of pear and dried fruit. On the palate, it is complex and silky, layering dark chocolate, dried fruits, and cocoa with warming spices and a subtle, balanced oakiness. The finish is long and persistent, marked by refined woody notes and a lingering sweetness.
