About the Macaloneys The Peat Project Islay Peat EBC
Macaloney’s The Peat Project Islay EBC is a peated Canadian single malt whisky produced at Macaloney’s Island Distillery in Victoria, British Columbia. Local British Columbia barley is smoked at the distillery to 54 PPM using traditional peat hand-cut on Islay, Scotland, then the whisky is fully matured in a selected Kentucky Bourbon cask. The EBC designation refers to the ex-/Kentucky Bourbon cask maturation. The 46% expression is bottled at 92 proof.
Food Pairing: Smoked salmon, barbecue brisket, grilled steak, smoked cheeses, roasted nuts and dark chocolate.
Tasting Notes: A combination of maritime peat smoke, sweet Bourbon-cask vanilla, dark berries, honey and mature oak.
Nose: Light medicinal peat, iodine, sphagnum moss, juniper, pine, floral notes, cherry and lychee.
Palate: Velvety vanilla, blackberry jam and fresh blackcurrant followed by iodine, seaweed, dried tobacco and leather.
Finish: Dried ginger, mature oak, seaweed and lingering peat smoke with a touch of honey.
Serve: Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water.
