Long Shadows Vintners Sequel Syrah 2020 pours a deep, opaque inky-ruby color in the glass. Conceived by legendary Australian winemaker John Duval as a continuing chapter to his iconic work with Penfolds Grange, this Washington State Syrah unfurls a highly expressive nose defined by wild blueberries, ripe cherries, and a complex savory note of black olive tapenade. Hints of ground pepper, liquid violets, and subtle cocoa oak spices float continuously into the foreground. On the palate, it delivers full-bodied power and a mouth-filling, opulent viscosity. A concentrated core of dark, brambly forest fruits is underpinned by fine-grained, refined tannins and a refreshing spine of natural acidity. After 18 months of maturation in 65% new French oak barrels, it cascades gracefully into a long, structured finish layered with notes of graphite and salted licorice.
