Ornellaia Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2021 is a wonderfully vibrant, approachable, and beautifully structured Super Tuscan red wine that captures the generous warmth and coastal Mediterranean influence of the Bolgheri terroir. Crafted as a multi-varietal blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon, each component is fermented separately in small steel vats to preserve its distinctive varietal character before undergoing malolactic fermentation. The wine is subsequently aged for 10 months in a combination of concrete tanks and seasoned French oak barriques previously utilized for the estate's legendary flagship bottling. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby-red hue with youthful purple reflections. The nose is highly expressive, unfolding a fragrant bouquet of dark cherries, ripe blackberries, cassis, and fresh red rose petals, laced with delicate nuances of sweet baking spices, black pepper, and earthy forest floor. On the palate, this medium-bodied red is exceptionally supple and balanced, integrating finely integrated, dusty tannins with a lively line of crisp acidity that leads to a clean, savory, and wonderfully persistent finish.
