About the Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2023 3L Double Magnum
Crafted in the famed Bolgheri appellation on the Tuscan coast, Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is the second wine of the iconic estate Ornellaia. The benchmark 2021 vintage—celebrated for its exceptional balance and richness—is a masterfully composed Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It opens with vibrant aromas of ripe blackberry, dark cherry, cassis, cedar, tobacco leaf, and refined oak spice. The palate is full-bodied, opulent, and impeccably structured, offering silky tannins, bright acidity, and a lingering, luxurious finish.
Food Pairing: Serve at room temperature; pairs exquisitely with Florentine T-bone steak (Bistecca alla Fiorentina), braised venison, roasted lamb chops, rich wild boar ragù, and aged Parmigiano-Reggiano.
95 Points - James Suckling
A gentle and elegant wine with aromas of spices, milk chocolate, vanilla, milk, mint, graphite and dark fruit. Silky and velvety on the palate, with ripe tannins, crisp acidity, a full body, clove flavors and amazing complexity.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 44% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot, the Ornellaia 2023 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia shows a nicely concentrated appearance and balanced aromas from what was ultimately a very strong vintage. The 2023 growing season saw pressure from downy mildew, but steady coastal winds helped keep the fruit healthy. A dry August followed by a rain-free September allowed for even ripening on the estate’s reddish sand and clay soils. Harvest was carefully timed to avoid the risk of over-ripeness, resulting in a wine with rich fruit, a velvety texture and impressive concentration. The tannins are refined and seamlessly integrated with no hard edges, while freshness on the finish balances the weight of fruit.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2023 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia, a blend of 44% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Petit Verdot, pours a deep purple hue and is expressive and polished, with aromas of blackberry, cassis, cocoa, Mediterranean herbs, leather, and floral perfume. Full-bodied, supple, and refined, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, elegant finish, it’s a step above in its category, offering both immediate appeal and aging potential.
93 Points - Vinous
The 2023 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a delight. Crushed flowers, ripe red cherry fruit, spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco are all nicely laced together. This mid-weight Serre Nuove is notable for its forward fruit, mid-weight structure and overall appeal. Floral top notes extend the effortless, silky finish.
