Le Piane Mimmo 2018

Le Piane Mimmo 2018 is an exceptionally elegant, expressive, and terroir-driven red blend that acts as a beautiful introduction to the high-altitude styles of northern Piedmont. Dedicated to Mimmo, a longtime and valued collaborator of the estate, this wine blends Nebbiolo with indigenous Croatina and Vespolina grapes sourced from both younger plantings and ancient vines over a century old. It is patiently aged for one year in Tonneaux barrels and another year in large Slavonian oak vats. In the glass, it reveals a brilliant, translucent ruby-red color. The nose is highly fragrant and expressive, unrolling a beautiful bouquet of wild strawberries, red cherries, and raspberries seamlessly layered with hints of blood orange, red poppy, black licorice, and a soft touch of balsamic spice. On the palate, this medium-bodied red is wonderfully lively and savory, marrying a core of juicy red fruits with a fine, chalky minerality and youthful, structured tannins. A distinct line of bright alpine acidity flows into a remarkably long, fresh, and fruit-forward finish.
