Le Piane βιαηκΩ (Bianco)

Le Piane βιαηκΩ (Bianco) is an ultra-rare, fascinating, and texturally complex Italian white wine crafted by Christoph Künzli at his acclaimed estate in the volcanic hills of Alto Piemonte. Made from 100% Erbaluce—a native northern Piedmontese variety celebrated for its high natural acidity—this unique wine is vinified using non-traditional techniques that completely set it apart. A small portion of the juice undergoes an extended six-month skin maceration, and the wine is fermented across a diverse array of vessels, including cement tanks, amphorae, and acacia wood barrels, followed by aging on its fine lees. In the glass, it reveals a brilliant straw-yellow color with shimmering green highlights. The nose is highly expressive and deeply mineral-driven, unfurling aromas of orchard fruits, sliced green apples, and apricot, beautifully layered with crushed white flowers, wild honey, and a touch of white pepper. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, elegant, and wonderfully structured. It masterfully balances its waxy, honeyed stone fruit flavors and fine-grained texture with a crisp, driving line of mountain acidity, concluding with a long, savory, and chalky finish marked by a characteristic hint of bitter almond.
